TKI-THERPA
Our TKI-THERPA project focuses on bottom-up synthesis of thermochromic pigments for smart energy-efficient coatings and films. Together with our partner Kriya Materials, we are developing a hydrothermal synthesis for nanometer sized VO2 pigments, modifying them for integration in organic coatings and transferring the procedure to Kriyas production plant. The thermochromic pigments undergo a temperature dependent transition from infrared (IR) transmitting to blocking, which enables solar heat regulation in functional coatings. The THERPA pigments can be used for smart heat management in buildings, reducing the operating costs for HVAC systems. In this way, THERPA makes a major contribution to the goal of an energy and climate-neutral built environment by 2050.
