Graphene Alliance for Sustainable Multifunctional Materials Addressing Environmental Issues

The GIANCE project, under Horizon Europe, offers innovative approaches to environmental challenges by creating a comprehensive, industry-focused platform. This initiative aims to design, develop, and manufacture a new generation of cost-effective, environmentally-friendly, lightweight, and recyclable materials derived from graphene and its related materials. These materials encompass a.o. multifunctional composites with improved characteristics, including thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties. Additionally, these advancements potentially enhance functionalities such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical and fire resistance, hardness, impact resistance and high-temperature resilience.
Within the GIANCE initiative, Brightlands Materials Center – TNO leads efforts in recycling graphene-reinforced thermoplastic composite (TPC) materials. The primary objective is to incorporate graphene into our recycled TPC technology, thereby improving performance and broadening the potential applications of recycled products.
The project consortium comprises 23 partners from 10 different nations, encompassing the entire value chain, featuring prominent Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), large industries, esteemed research and educational institutions, and dynamic Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
