Koen Janssen has been appointed the new director of Brightlands Materials Center. Janssen will begin in his new role on October 1, succeeding Marnix van Gurp and Peter Wolfs.
Janssen is of Belgian nationality and received his PhD in polymer chemistry from the University of Leuven (Belgium). Since 1991, Janssen worked in various positions for DSM at Chemelot. For the past 3 years he has been working in the United States as Vice President Innovation / R&D & Sustainability at DSM Biomedical.
Janssen is no stranger to Brightlands Materials Center. In 2014, he participated on behalf of DSM in the discussions leading up to the creation of Brightlands Materials Center. He is proud to contribute to sustainable materials solutions once again in his new role as director:
“I strongly believe in working with partners to create and develop new sustainable products, applications and business models based on a solid scientific foundation. The need to create social impact together in the field of sustainability is currently greater than ever.”
As director, he will focus on the new phase of the research center. Brightlands Materials Center is an international research center for new, sustainable technologies in the field of plastics. Together with industry, universities and entrepreneurs, material solutions that contribute to a sustainable future are developed. Examples include smart coatings for solar control glass, composites for mobility and solutions for circular packaging.
