Traditional soup pouches offer great convenience, but their multi-material structure makes recycling nearly impossible. Now, a Dutch innovation is changing the game: a fully recyclable mono-material pouch made of polypropylene (PP). Weโ€™re proud that Brightlands Materials Center contributed to this breakthrough โ€“ showing how joint innovation can drive real impact.

During development, both PET and PP were tested. While PET showed poor sealability, PP proved more promising โ€” prompting a focused collaboration between industry and research partners to fine-tune the material.

Companies and knowledge institutions including soup producer Four Seasons Food BV, Greenyard Prepared Belgium nv, SABIC, Oerlemans Plastics, TNO, Brightlands Materials Center, and Zuyd Hogeschool worked closely together to develop a suitable PP variant. Plato Product Consultants supported the project with management and expertise.
